AWARD WINNING SHORT  'a STORY of HOPE'

starring Chris Rabb BEST FILM JULY 2006

"This month's Pinnacle Podcast  WINNER is a touching short film by Director and Studio user Michael Savage. It tells the inspirational story of Chris Rabb,

an ex-crack cocaine addict living on the streets of Los Angeles and getting by as a car window washer.

The story demonstrates how 'hope' is more than just a word, but a way to survive."

Michael Savage:  Producer, Director, Writer, Actor,Cinematographer, Editor,

Musician and Composer.

All Michael Savage really wanted to do was play baseball.  As a young boy growing up near Yankee Stadium, he knew about the possibilities of becoming a champion in life no matter where you were born.  But he would become a classical Actor...imagine from the South Bronx...to becoming a member of the TONY AWARD HONOREE THE ACTING COMPANY (founded by Margot Harley and John Houseman.)  He told me..."life has a way of pitching a curve every now and then and so you go with the pitch to stay in the game..." Born, Ronald Barry Jacobson...he changed his name to Michael Savage after becoming a professional Actor. At the age of nine his father Max Jacobson a former well known Vaudeville dancer and WWII Veteran (who fought on OMAHA BEACH and the BATTLE of the BULGE) moved his family to Spring Valley in the suburbs of upstate New York.   Known as Ron Jacobson as a teenager he was a good football, basketball and baseball player where he learned the skills of being a team player...he studied music and learned to play three instruments (guitar, piano, drums) used his singing voice in state choir and became a composer.  He also served as the President of the KEY CLUB (a student-community organization associated with KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL)  while at Spring Valley High School.

Where he developed his volunteer skills in the community to help those who can't help themselves. Mr. Savage’s passion for humanity continues to grow through his generous spirit and dedication to the arts as well as those lives he has touched through efforts with organizations such as Unicef, World Vision, American Red Cross, Los Angeles Mission, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Disabled American Veterans, Feed The Children, Chabad House and The Jerry Lewis Telethon.  Before THE ACTING COMPANY, Michael went to SUNY PURCHASE where he graduated at the top of his class and recieved a B.F.A. in Theater Arts.   During his years as a working actor in New York he appeared in numerous Off-Broadway and regional productions including the New York Shakespeare Festival where he worked with director Joseph Papp and performed with Meryl Streep and William Hurt.

Michael has also been a star of television’s popular soap opera General Hospital as well as having performed a variety roles on TV including Dallas, Rituals and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.

Mr. Savage is an Award-Winning actor having been awarded a grant of Excellence from the Ann Mary Kelly Foundation for the Performing Arts for his work as Tye McCool in the west coast premiere of Tennessee Williams’ Vieux Carre at the Beverly Hills Playhouse.

Michael, is currently the creator & Artistic Director of the Award Wining and highly respected workshop,

The Total Workshop for Acting’ in LOS ANGELES)

Mr. Savage custom writes material for all of his students as well as empowering them with the

proper tools to bring the best out in their work.  He produces custom demos and original films to showcase their talent.

THE ROCK STAR 'TOMMY'

Hit &RUN

This is the first film to be released this year...it has been submitted to festivals all over the world.    But Michael is already working with his ensemble...to shoot two more films before the end of the year.

Mr. Savage is an ( Award Winning Actor and Filmmaker ) he was inspired by many great mentors...and developed this workshop based on several ICONS in the theater that he worked with and learned valuable lessons from that have contributed to Michael becoming a Filmmaker.

What was the key to creating a WORKSHOP designed to have his own ensemble of Actors trained to perform in original films which he custom writes for them?   Here is a map of his journey..

In the tradition of  The Group Theater (Clifford Odets wrote for the Actors) which was the key element in their impact on the world.  (read the Fervent Years by Harold Clurman)  Then there was Alan Schneider (the TONY AWARD WINNING  director of  the Broadway production of WHO'S AFRAID of VIRGINIA WOLF) ...who introduced Michael to John Houseman and Margot Harley at Juilliard where Michael auditioned to replace an Actor who quit the Acting Company ...Michael believes his experience with the TONY AWARD HONOREE ...THE ACTING COMPANY...with John Houseman (founder of the MERCURY theater with Orsen Wells)...and Michael's work with Norris Houghton (founder of the Phoenix Theater where Norris directed Montgomery Clift in a production of THE SEAGULL...(and who also produced a play for John Houseman)...gave him insights and experience...to understand the value and importance of building an ensemble that had 'Purpose'.  That working together with other like minded artists was the key to any long range success.  That collaboration was essential to building any lasting group that would leave a mark.

Norris Houghton ...was also a part of ...The UNIVERSITY Players which he wrote a book called (BUT NOT FORGOTTEN) which included both James Stewart and Henry Fonda...this is what has helped inspire Michael's vision ...but there was another important element that Norris inspired Micheal with that set Norris apart from his peers...Norris was the only American who had hands on experience for over a year with Constantin Stanislavski...having been to Russia  where Norris  wrote two books on the Moscow Theater (Moscow Rehearshals and Return Engagement )...which later in his career based his concept to build and graduate theater companies in America and then designed and created the Theater Department at  SUNY Purchase.  When Norris held auditions for the First Company of Actors Mr. Savage auditioned and was selected to be apart of the First Acting Company at Purchase...Joseph Anthony was the Artistic Director of the group ( a well known Broadway Actor and Director)...who also directed films in Hollywood who directed such actors as Katherine Hepburn and Burt Lancaster in the film 'THE RAINMAKER'  (but was an ICON of the theater)  Michael was trained and directed by Joe Anthony and his spirit is still with him...then there was the influence of  Joseph Papp who created the Public Theater in New York and Shakespeare in the park (who actually once worked for Norris at CBS in early live Television).

Norris introduced Michael to Joseph Papp and was cast in a production of HENRY V (directed by Joseph Papp) which included such actors as Meryl Streep and William Hurt (both Oscar winners).  Having worked with and been around all these ICONS of the American theater ...Michael realized that it was really about building a company and creating projects.   Only then will your work have a voice.  Then getting the work into the public eye so you will have a chance to make a difference as an Artist.   And now...it was possible to create a Film Company of Actors making films...in the tradition of his Mentors who created  Theater Company's to produce plays.   Michael believes that once he establishes this concept...it will become a common place thing to have Actors making films all the time in Reportory as in the theater.   The cost is now possible.  And that was always the problem...but not any more.

Then of course the Film Festivals provide a venue for these films to be seen.  Eventually some of these films will be offered larger audience release by being picked up by the studio aquisition process.   Then his actors will hopefully be offered more work by other film makers who have seen them in his films.   And that's what makes THE TOTAL WORKSHOP FOR ACTING such a unique concept.   You study and you work and you're in films and you have the opportunity to have a custom demo reel of your work...so you can promote yourself to get more work.  And it's always about the WORK."
